Doors at 8pm, show at 9pm.

Pearl Jam Play Charity Show

In addition to the many PJ shows I won't be able to see this summer, I can add another one to my list.

The Seattle boys will play a benefit show for the Robin Hood Foundation at NYCs Beacon Theater. To be able to get a chance ot get tickets you need to donate $100, then buy tickets for $250 each.

They are hoping to raise upwards of 3 million bucks. (Rock & Roll Daily)

No Sleep 'Til...

One of my favorite local bands, The Fieros, are moving to Brooklyn. I guess they are ready to move on from the $30,000 millionaires and the lack of super-awesome music scene.

I would bet they will make a huge splash there. I wouldn't be surprised if Brooklyn Vegan or Rolling Stone has a right-up about them being the next big thing.

Their going away party will be tomorrow night at Club Dada. (DC9)

Old Crow Medicine Show Add Dates

Old Crow Medicine Show have announced more dates through the summer and fall. Sadly, no dates announced for Dallas. I’m really hoping they come back to the Granada. When I saw them there a few years ago it was “awesome.” So, I’m hoping they make a return visit. As long as they don’t play the House of Blues I’ll be happy.

They are performing at a string of two-night stands at the 9:30 Club in D.C., Webster's Hall in NYC, the historic Ryman Auditorium and The Fillmore in San Francisco.

Happy Memorial Day!!

Hey kids, BFD would just like to wish you all a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend. This is the official start of summer, bitches. Remember to be safe while you are out on any given lake. Don't drink to much or eat to much. Stay out of the danger zone y'all!

Grand Archives

I have finally been able to listen to the new Grand Archives album and I’m way beyond impressed. The opening track “Torn Blue Foam Couch” is phenomenal. I know Mat Brooks was in Band of Horses for a short time, but, they really don’t really sound exactly like BoH, more of they have similarities. Brooks and Ben Bridwell, of BoH, have vocal similarities. But, I think Brooks has the better pipes of the two. And they aren’t completely drenched in reverb.

“Setting Sun” has the southern rock tendencies you would associate with BoH and its pulled off very nicely. “Sleep Driving” is probably my favorite track on the album. It reminds me of a indie version of “Mama I’m Coming Home” by Oswald Osbourne. I’m not sure why, but it does.

They will be playing a show with the wonderful Sera Cahoone and Denton’s own Sarah Jaffe at The Cavern on 6/22. You can get your tickets here.

Weezer "Pork And Beans" Video

The Weezer boys have done done it again, y'all! Gotta love Rivers rockin' the sweet porno 'stache. There are several YouTube celebs from the last year. But, Ms. Teen South Carolina is still super hot. Such as.

Rikki's Innocent!

Ok, so maybe he didn't rape some chick. Honestly, I didn't figure he did. Ol' Rik seems like a well intentioned guy. But, now that he's been aquitted he'll have a lot of time to airbrush toilet seat lids.

Band of Horses "No One's Gonna Love You" Video

Here's the new video for one of my favorite tracks from BoH's Cease To Begin, "No One's Gonna Love You."

The Who Gets "Honored"

Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters and The Flaming Lips will all take part in the 2008 VH1 Rock Honors: The Who.

I'm pretty pumped about this one because I like all of the participating bands. PJ routinely covers The Who in concert, and I'm sure Dave Grohl and Wayne Coyne are big fans as well.

The show will broadcast on July 17. Check your local listings. (Billboard)

Foxboro Hot Tubs Tonight at The Loft

Tonight the Foxboro Hot Tubs, or the Green Day side-project, will be playing at The Loft in Dallas.

Doors at 8PM, $20 (cash only) at the door, tickets only available at the door and they're limited to two per person. I guess there is major demand for these tickets?

She & Him Video

She & Him are in the middle of or have shot their first video for the amazing Vol. 1. The article doesn't say which song it's for, but, I'm sure it's going to be good. It would be nice if it were for "This is Not A Test" which is my favorite song on the album. But, I'm sure it's for "Why Do You Let Me Stay Here?" (Stereogum)

Radiohead: Dallas Show MP3s

I figured it wouldn't be to long before the guys at Radiohead Not For Profit uploaded the Dallas show from this past Sunday. So, they have uploaded the entire show and you can get them here. Enjoy!

Radiohead - Paranoid Android (Live Dallas mp3)

Jayhova Reps The Nets

In what has to be the coolest thing ever, Jay-Z will participate in the NBA Lottery this year. Not like MCing the event or even performing. No, Jigga will actually be sitting on stage helping out with the selection of the Nets pick. Well, at least sitting there looking pretty. (BET)

Beck "Chemtrails"

You can check out the new joint by Beck, "Chemtrails," at his website.

Portishead on The Beeb

For those of us with out the ability to see the great Portishead live you can do the next best thing: listen live. The band will play three songs on The Radcliffe and Maconie Show on BBC Radio 2 today.

For those of you who want to listen you can do so here.

The Bonnaroo Will Be Televised

If you can't make the trek to Manchester, TN this year to Bonnaroo then just turn on your television. Fuse will show six hours of performances and interviews.

That's good and all, but, I would like it if they showed Pearl Jam's entire set. But, that's not going to happen, so, I'll just check it out online. But, Fuse's coverage should be good. (Yahoo)

Fleet Foxes at The Loft

In some of the better news I've come across today, Fleet Foxes will bring their genius to The Loft here in Dallas on 7/3. It would be a school night. But, the next day is the Fourth of July, so, I'm sure I'll get to go.

I Love Math

One of my favorite local bands, I Love Math, has a record coming out on May 27 in the year of our Lord. The new disc is called Getting To The Point Is Beside It and it should be another good one.

If you're a fan of The Deathray Davies, Old 97's or The Paper Chase then you should probably check out I Love Math since members of those three bands are all in ILM.

You can check out their tour dates here, where they will be playing with the Old 97's. You can also check out their new cut "Josephine Street" down below.

Radiohead Dallas Reviews

Last night was one of those nights where I had to keep myself occupied because I was bummed out. No, not because I watch the Rangers lose again, but because I missed out on Radiohead. But, from the DC9 review it was super awesome. But, like most Guide Live reviews, they made it out to seem ho-hum. However, I doubt it was anything but purely awesome.

DFest

DFest is one of the newest music conference/shows around. But, unlike most fests they are trying to position themselves as the SXSW of well...the southwest. Workshops will be given on a variety of topics including touring.

The conference will include shows by Ghostland Observatory, The Roots, moe. and Helmet. My brother keeps pointing out to me that major acts keep coming to play Tulsa and they really only have Cain's Ballroom. But, it's fn Cain's Ballroom. The only place to host Bob Wills and the Sex Pistols. I think he's just mad that the Norman/OKC area doesn't have the juice or promotion ability to pull it off like Tulsa does. But, Tulsa has always tried to convince everyone that it's not actually in Oklahoma. So, who knows.

But, you can get ticket and conference information here.

Helmet - In The Meantime (mp3)

The "DUH!" Award

So my vote for my new “DUH!” Award goes to Rollingstone. They recently had an article titled “Hight Ticket Prices Could Hurt Concert Business.” High ticket prices could hurt the concert business? Really? You know, I know as a band gets older and becomes more established in the rock and roll canon that tickets are going to go through the roof. And, as I’ve gotten older and made a little bit more cash I like to sit in seats that are a little bit closer to the stage.

But, as much as I would like to see Madonna in concert I can’t afford to pay $150 for a ticket especially when I have to get one for the Mrs. too. But, it just kinda sucks when a favorite band, mine being the great Pearl Jam, raise their ticket prices $30 from the last time you saw them. I know, I know…gas prices, food prices all that stuff is going up and contributes to the ticket price. But, it just kinda sucks when you have realize you don’t have the scratch to see every show you want to see. Radiohead I’m looking in your direction.

My anger is explained a little better here. (Rock & Roll Daily)

The Blakes "Basket"

Ahhhhh yes, more ballsy rockin' out with The Blakes. You should really jump on their bandwagon, there isn't much room left.

The Blakes - Basket (mp3)

Ladytron "Ghosts" Video

Now this is more like it! This joint is super good and I can't wait to hear more of the new record.

Mom

It seems as though Denton is really becoming the “Austin North” that Stillwater, OK claims to be with it’s rich Red Dirt sound. Considering Centro-Matic, Midlake and the recently disbanded Ghosthustler all have roots there that really shouldn’t come as much of a surprise.

But Mom, an electronic folk group from Little D, has one of the most soul stirring songs I’ve come across in quite a while. The group consists of Joel North and Bruce Blay, two UNT students. They use a lot of electronic equipment, sequencers, loops, samplers, to come up with their sound. It’s instrumental music you could give the parental units and you can both enjoy it. The Dallas Observer had a nice little piece on them recently, you can check it out here.

If you’re a fan of The Weepies or Wye Oak then you’ll like Mom.

School of Seven Bells "Chain"

I’ve been waiting patiently for the arrival of this single “Chain” by School of Seven Bells. It’s a very ethereal track by former Secret Machine-ist Benjamin Curtis and twins Alejandra and Claudia Deheza formerly of On! Air! Library!. It’s a lot like the shoe gazer stuff of the early/mid 90s.

School of Seven Bells - Chain (mp3)

Ozzfest Has New Home?

I told you a few months ago a rumor was swirling around about Ozzfest was going to be one show this year and possibly in Dallas. Well, the rumors are true. Leave it to Sharon Osborne to schedule the now “destination festival” Ozzfest to be right in the middle of a sweltering Texas summer.

I hope the little metal heads in their black t-shirts stay close to the mist fans and purchase plenty of bottled water. But, I’m sure they’ll get older dudes to score them beer and smoke a lot of grass. (Rock & Roll Daily)

New Toadies Album?

I thought the Toadies were done and relegated to reunion gigs around Dallas.  Now, I find out the Burden Brothers are "indefinite hiatus," so they are probably done.

So, that left plenty of time for Vaden Todd Lewis to create a new Toadies album.  I hope it doesn't ruin the small legacy they've created for themselves.  No Deliverance will be out August 19.

Beck Talks New Album

Portishead "The Rip" Video

This is visually arresting clip courtesy of Portishead. I like this song a lot better than the debut Third track "Machine Gun." The beginning reminds me of the work she did with Rustin Man on their Out of Season LP.  But, then it gets more Portishead-y.  Good Stuff.

Joe Budden Meets Portishead

One of the many things I love about the interweb is that musical artists can express themselves in an immediate way. Case-in-point the Joe Budden vs. Portishead mixtape.

The new Portishead disc has only been out a couple of weeks and already it's been sampled, and in a very impressive way.

You can get the whole mixtape here for free, just follow the links. Check out the "Roll Call" track below. It has some sweet usage of Portishead's "Machine Gun." (Rock & Roll Daily)

The Black Keys Cover Captain Beefheart

I'm going to get real honest with you people, can you handle it? I don't think I've ever heard any tunes by Captain Beefheart. However, I know a lot of people like him/them, so, I guess I'm missing out.

However, if there songs sound anything like The Black Keys versions of "I'm Glad" then I really am missing out. (Stereogum)

Classic Jane's Addiction and Ice-T

A few months ago I caught a program on VH1 Classic about Soul music from the 60s and 70s.  It featured a song I had up to that point never heard.  It's the Sly and The Family Stone classic jam "Don't Call Me Nigger, Whitey."  Yeah, I know.

Well, I told my wife about it and she was all 'yeah, I saw Ice-T sing it with Jane's Addiction at the first Lollapalooza.'  Well, now you can see a version of it in living color.  Jamie Foxx not included.

MGMT "Time To Pretend" Remix

One of the thing that I really love about a good remix is that it can dramatically change the feeling of a song. Most often it's for the better, like pretty much anything Deep Dish remixes. Other times, it kinda sucks.

I'm not sure what side of the fence I'm on with the remix of MGMT's "Time To Pretend." It changes it from a somewhat whimsical, Polyphonic Spree type tune to a more menacing, industrial-ish track. But, it's pretty darn good.

Take a listen and judge for yourself.

My Morning Jacket Tour

The real Tennessee titans will bring their raucous live show back to Dallas in support of their upcoming album Evil Urges.

Unfortunately, no longer will they be able to play at the greatness of the Gypsy Tea Room, they will play the Palladium Ballroom in its stead. I’ve seen them four times now and they never cease to amaze me. (Ultra 8021)

New Beck Album Coming Soon

Excuse me. Could the person who's set to release an album produced by Danger Mouse and could possible sneak release it Raconteur style please raise their hand?

Oh, why hello Mr. Hansen. How have you been doing lately? Great to hear that. So, the new album is coming out soon, huh? When? Wait, no, come back! Stop running so fast you little rosey cheeked devil you!

Now that I've caught my breath Beck is set to release his new album this summer. Rumors a swirling he's going to turn it in to the label and release it a week later like the Raconteurs did.

Excellent play Beck, excellent play. (Rock & Roll Daily)

Gimme A Break

Actually, let me restate that: Gimme a fucking break!

A girl committed suicide by hanging herself on her bunk bed and the medical examiner says he found signs of the "emo movement" during his inquest. Really, sir? Really? Was this because she frequented MCR message boards and listened to their albums? That's weird because I listened to Judas Priest again last night and I almost killed myself. Because they told me to of course.

Can we get a fucking grip people? She was 13 and I'm sure she didn't feel like she fit in anywhere. A lot of kids do. But, they don't always kill themselves. She probably wanted to be noticed and people to cry for her. This is a very sad ordeal for her family and I don't really think that blaming My Chemical Romance is going to solve anything.

Sorry, this is just really stupid and I can't believe this kind of thing continues to happen. (Gigwise)

Grand Ole Party at The Cavern

I wasn't sure if GOP would make an appearance in the Dallas or not. But, my hope of seeing them live has just been fulfilled!

You see boys and girls, ladies and gents, the band known as Grand Ole Party will be playing The Cavern on 6/14. I've already marked it on my calendar and I will be there for sheezy.

John Mayer You Funny, Funny Bastard

Granted, I'm not a fan of the John Mayer. Sure, my body is a wonderland, but John, why tell the world? However, I do enjoy the comedic stylings of Mr. Mayer...he's a pretty funny guy who wrote songs for chicks and then decided to sing the blues. Kind of.

But, he has a new video on Funny or Die and it let's YOU get a peek inside his song writing process. (Rock & Roll Daily)

Helio Sequence Tour

First I find out that Grand Archives and Sera Cahoone will be playing The Cavern very soon. Now I find out fellow Sub Poppers, The Helio Sequence, will be hitting up Dallas too.

They will be playing The Loft in Dallas on 6/7. I'm super pumped they are coming to town and it's not a school night. Stoked I am. (Ultra8201)

Christmas on Mars

At long last The Flaming Lips will debut their movie "Christmas on Mars" at the Sasquatch! Music Festival on May 25. A buddy of mine has been anxiously anticipating this movie since he first heard about it in 2001 when the movie started filming. Filming was finished three years ago, so, I'm not sure why it's coming out now. Why did it take so long Wayne?!

But, Fred Armisen, Elijah Wood, Isaac Brock of Modest Mouse and Steve "I Hosted Blue's Clues" Burns are in it. The trailer has aspects of it that remind me of "Eraserhead" and that kind of scares me. That movie freaked my beans back in the day. I'm sure Wayne has he typical Wayne Coyne stuff in it. If it's half as good as "Fearless Freaks" then we will be in for a treat.

Stellastarr* Closer To Releasing New Album

The greatness of Stellastarr* are finally mixing their newest record.  It should be a good one!

Wye Oak Video

The good people at Yahoo! have posted this clip of Wye Oak singing their tune "Regret," not the New Order one, off their album If Children from their Who's Next series.  I really dig the tie-dyed piano.

Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin Interview

I had the good fortune to do a short, sweet interview with Philip Dickey of Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin. If you have read anything about them on here, then you know I'm a big fan of their. Pershing probably is the greatest album of the summer...no kidding.

They will be playing tomorrow at Hailey's in Denton with Port O'Brien.

Bona Fide Darling: What made you want to cover a Hole song? Which one of you has a crush on Courtney Love?
Philip Dickey: My little brother just got "Live Through This" and I started listening to it again. I think that CD came out on April 8 (94) and that was our release date, too. I think we're all secretly in love and incredibly scared of her.

BFD: Have you played Denton before?
PD: Yes, and we stayed at someone's house because their parents were gone.

BFD: What music do you bring with you on tour? Did John bring any Garth Brooks CDs on this tour?
PD: A lot of music from our hometown. Check out our top friends on myspace.com/boris and you can listen to them. My favorite CD this tour is "Windows" by Michael Holt. He covers some piano songs by an obscure composer from Moscow. His originals are great, too. We prefer George Straight CDs, but we like Garth Brooks karaoke.

BFD: Do you think Mizzou will stand a chance in the Big 12 this year since Chase Daniel left?
PD: I only follow Missouri State women's basketball, sorry. They went to the final four twice. And I like the Cincinnati Reds and Bengals.

BFD: What's the deal with your shirts?! You only have S-M-L sizes; you be thinkin' us husky dudes want a SSLYBY shirt?
PD: That's weird. We must have sold out. There are probably a lot of husky dudes with SSLYBY t-shirts.

BFD: I think "Modern Mystery" and "Think I Wanna Die" are the songs of the summer. What do you have to say to those who disagree?
PD: Thanks. Um, I would say "You're entitled to your own opinion...but WTF?"

BFD: The sound of Pershing seems cleaner, more produced than Broom. Was that something that was done consciously?
PD: We just set up a bunch of gear and had no idea what it was going to sound like. Will and I wanted something more real and lo-fi. John and Jonathan wanted to make more of a classic sounding record.

BFD: Spin gave you a pretty favorable, if short, review of your show at the Mercury Lounge in NYC. Is that something you guys find exciting to be reviewed by a major music magazine?
PD: Yeah, because it makes our parents pay attention to us.

BFD: If you weren't a working musician what would you be doing?
PD: Shortstop for the Cincinnati Reds. I'd bat .280 and steal a bunch of bases.

BFD: Was there any particular band/thing/moment that made you want to be a musician? Or, was it just that it would be easier scoring girls?
PD: I started taking piano lessons in elementary school and I just wanted to play fast songs and be in a band.

BFD: Do you think that non-major blog coverage helps raise your profile? Do you think blog coverage in general helps raise your profile?
PD: Yes and yes. Being on a blog is like being on MTV in the 90s. Or something. I really don't know. Tom Petty rules.

BFD: Favorite band or song of the moment?
PD: "Way Up Past" by Michael Holt.

BFD: How did you come up with the bands name? It's quite a mouthful.
PD: I thought of it in high school right after Boris Yeltsin resigned. I saw a NBC news story about his wife. She liked to play tennis.

Trent Reznor Love His Fans...Again

Man, Trent Reznor sure does love his fans. So far this year he's treated them with a free album and just last week treated them with a new song "Discipline."

Now he's telling his fan "I still love you" by releasing another album for free on the interweb titled Slip.

You can go here to get you Slip on. And as always, Trent Reznor is Nine Inch Nails. (Rock & Roll Daily)

Pearl Jam Start on New Album

The greatness of the Pearl Jam are in the studio now working on material for a new album. That's not even the best part. Brenden O'Brien is working with them again on this one. He hasn't worked with them since 1998's Yield, one of my favoritist albums of all-time.

Knowing them, it should be released this time next year or in the fall of '09. While their last album, Pearl Jam, was overly political and I found just to be an "okay" album I'm hoping this will be less political. Don't whittle out the politics completely, just tone it down. So far their last album is the only I'm not a big fan of. It had a few choice cuts, but overall, I didn't think it's as good as my least favorite albums of theirs.

Maybe with new album and new President they will finally come back to Texas and play a damn show!

Radiant at The Granada Tomorrow

Just wanted to let everyone know that one of the great local bands, Radiant*, will be playing The Granada Theater tomorrow. It should be a great show as always.

Hear The Drummer Get Wicked!

Please help John Otto give back to the community by paying him to teach you how to play drums. I kinda feel bad for the guy. I highly doubt his former band will be back into the good graces of popular culture and so now he has to teach you, or me, how to drum. (Idolator)

Grand Archives on Late Late Show

Yeah, so Grand Archives were on the Late Late Show last night. Good thing I checked the guests before I went to bed so I coudl record it on the ol' DVR. Now I have a treat for whens I get home.

It's The Summertime!

Here's the cover of NKOTBs first single in case anyone is interested. I can't wait to hear the new single and see if it sucks or not. Oh, and I love Donnie's (word) pasty arms. (Rock & Roll Daily)

His Name Is Prince...

You know how I posted the clip of Prince singing his version of Radiohead's "Creep?" Well, an mp3 of it has magically popped up on the interweb.
