Hope For Sons of Hermann

I didn't know if Hope Sandoval was going to come to Dallas to support her new album. But, the good folks over at Spune pulled off another great show for the DFWd'ers as she will play Sons of Hermann Hall on October 19. You can get more info here.

MP3: Hope Sandoval - Trouble

Hope Sandoval In "Trouble"

The newest single from Hope Sandoval graced me yesterday. It sounds like, to me, Southwestern Hope. She is touring for her new album... but, not here... or anywhere near here. But, there are suppose to be more dates added to her tour, so...

Under The Cover

As I came home from a long day of swimming with the extended family, the sun finally setting behind the trees this song came up on my iPod. I found it fitting since summer is fading and kids of all kinds are going back to school and it reminded me of being young and not wanting the summer to end.

MP3: Youth Group - Forever Young

Youth Group will be playing the Granada with emo royalty The Get Up Kids on September 30.

Pretty Lights Coming To The D

Pretty Lights is bringing his second coming of DJ Shadow sound to Dallas when he hits up the Granada on November 10. The Colorado Springs producer will bring his touring drummer along with him as well to add to the live performance. But, if you think it's just going to be a boring show with a producer pushing buttons on a sequencer while his drummer lays down the beat--think again. His performance will be a full on AV experience including video and a full-blown lighting rig that will produce... pretty lights.

If you still don't have his two albums you can still download them for free here.

EdVed Tours Again

Eddie Vedder doesn't seem to be finished touring. He toured solo earlier in the spring, now with Pearl Jam and he's going it alone again. He's announced a handful, err maybe two hands full, worth of dates across this great land. And once agian Liam Finn is opening up for him on tour. (pearljam.com)

The Black Keys at The Granada

Is anyone as excited about the Keys playing Dallas as I am?  I missed them the last time they were in town.  But, I won't miss it this time!

They added this show recently before their ACL stop, so, be there or be square!

Old Crow Medicine Show Add Dates

Old Crow Medicine Show have announced more dates through the summer and fall. Sadly, no dates announced for Dallas. I’m really hoping they come back to the Granada. When I saw them there a few years ago it was “awesome.” So, I’m hoping they make a return visit. As long as they don’t play the House of Blues I’ll be happy.

They are performing at a string of two-night stands at the 9:30 Club in D.C., Webster's Hall in NYC, the historic Ryman Auditorium and The Fillmore in San Francisco.

In some of the better news I've come across today, Fleet Foxes will bring their genius to The Loft here in Dallas on 7/3. It would be a school night. But, the next day is the Fourth of July, so, I'm sure I'll get to go.

My Morning Jacket Tour

The real Tennessee titans will bring their raucous live show back to Dallas in support of their upcoming album Evil Urges.

Unfortunately, no longer will they be able to play at the greatness of the Gypsy Tea Room, they will play the Palladium Ballroom in its stead. I’ve seen them four times now and they never cease to amaze me. (Ultra 8021)

First I find out that Grand Archives and Sera Cahoone will be playing The Cavern very soon. Now I find out fellow Sub Poppers, The Helio Sequence, will be hitting up Dallas too.

They will be playing The Loft in Dallas on 6/7. I'm super pumped they are coming to town and it's not a school night. Stoked I am. (Ultra8201)

Submarines Tour

One of the bands I've come to really like recently are the Submarines out of L.A. They are similar musically to Beth Orton, kind of "folktronica" a little bit. Some stuff is a little more poppy.

But, they are going on tour starting 5/22 with the great, great band Headlights.

Grand Archives Play The Cavern

Some really good news I just heard, and I may be late on this one, but Grand Archives will be playing The Cavern on June 22.

I'm glad they are coming back to the North Tejas area. They played in Denton around SXSW time and I had to miss that show. So, I'm glad they are coming back.

Grand Archives - Miniature Birds (mp3)

Frightened Rabbit

When a song starts off “Jesus is just a Spanish boys name” my ears will automatically perk up. Not that I’m a Jesus hater, I just like it when someone will push back that hard with their music. That is the way Scotland’s Frightened Rabbit begins their song “Head rolls Off”. After the first verse or so it jumps into a jangly “Where The Streets Have No Name” guitar and it completely works. The singer vocally has a lot in common with Adam Duritz of the Counting Crows or Gary Lightbody of Snow Patrol. But, Frightened Rabbit’s music isn’t the dour sort of thing you’d expect to hear from the Duritz Gang.

They will be playing with the French Kicks June 4 at the Granada Theater.

SSLYBY "Pershing"

I've had this album for a while now and I've been listening to it non-stop. Such a great album, "Glue Girls," "Think I Wanna Die," "Modern Mystery" are all some of my favorite tracks off the album. I really can't say enough about this album, it's really good.

If you like stuff like The Shins then you will totally dig this album. Oh, and did I mention they are currently on tour and will be performing in Denton? I didn't? I should be ashamed! And for all my OK peeps they will be playing the Opolis the night before Denton.

Port O'Brien will be opening up for them! (Thanks Joel!)
