How To Dress Well | Ready For The World

Brooklyn's lo-fi purveyor of bedroom produced soul has been rolling out haunting, ambient down tempo soul tracks since late last year.

It's newest track "Ready For The World" is pretty much exactly what I said about them in the last sentence: ambient, chilled out and ready for late night bedroom action or after hours smoke out sessions.

Check out (read: download) more of it's tracks here.

DJ Sober + A1 | AUTOMATIC

I finally got around to checking out the AUTOMATIC mixtape Sober and A1 posted last week and it does not disappoint. It runs through more genres (or jonres as Nikki Sixx would say) than you can shake a stick at, which other than the choice cuts on it and the flawless mixing, is why I like it so much.

Get AUTOMATIC here.

Amplive Remix Why?

Amplive, of Rainydayz fame, has remixed a handful of tracks from Why? He continues his eclectic tastes in music, that I think is a prerequisite for Oakland rappers and producers. He transforms the folky "Black Purses" into head bobbin', hip shake inducing goodness. His take on "Uno Roses" is also a track definitely worth listening to as it's turned into a buzzy, slow burn.

You can download everything here.

Jaydiohead Brings The Encore

After the excellent first Jaydiohead album that came out earlier this year Max Tannone has just put out his follow-up, Jaydiohead: The Encore. Unlike his first effort, this one is a little more subdued and slowed down compared to the urgency of his first album.

You can get The Encore as a free download here... and if you haven't already downloaded Jaydiohead, I highly suggest you get it.

The Cool Kids Go Fishing

With the new era of the music industry in full swing a lot of artists have taken to releasing their singles, albums and mixtapes for free online.  It's a good way to get free publicity since most of their money is made from touring anyway.  No one has embraced this new model quite like The Cool Kids.  They only have one EP to their name and a slew of singles that have been released for free via blogs.  Today they release their newest mixtape Gone Fishing to keep their name out there.

It's what you would expect from The Cool Kids, hard 808 beats and off-kilter rhymes.

You can download Gone Fishing here.

NIN/JA Tour Sampler

Trent Reznor is a master marketer for the new millennium.  He did all the free flash drive stuff a few years ago, gave away albums and continues to do so.  For the upcoming tour with Jane's Addiction and Street Sweeper he has put up this tour sampler for free.

Of course you have to fill something out, but, it's prolly worth it because he's always giving away free shit.

Track listing:

Jane's Addiction - Chip Away
Nine Inch Nails - Not So Pretty Now
Jane's Addiction - Whores
Nine Inch Nails - Non-Entity
Street Sweeper - The Oath

Raveonettes Remix Treatment

Today is a remix kind of a day.  The Raveonettes are offering a free remix EP for a few songs from their delicious new album Lust Lust Lust.  I'm a big fan of the regular version of "Dead Sound" and "Aly, Walk With Me."  The "Lust" and "Dead Sound" remixes are not bad, but I really like the downbeat treatment of "Aly, Walk With Me."  It keeps the same feeling as the original but adds a little some'in, some'in.  I love the blips and beeps reminicent of early 90's house music verging on Nitzer Ebb aggression.

The EP is free and the first in a series of three.  You can get the first one here.

1. Dead Sound (80KIDZ remix)
2. Aly, Walk With Me (Nic Endo remix)
3. Lust (Trentemøller Remix)

Free Chemical Brothers Remix

In anticipation of the Chemical Brothers releasing another compilation CD they are giving away a free remix of one of my all-time favorite ChemBros tracks--Hey Boy, Hey Girl. It's one of those tracks that you can't really turn up loud enough. I still love the crazy manipulated guitar breakdown...so fucking great.

Go here to download Hey Boy, Hey Girl (Soulwax "2 Many DJs" Remix). It's a great reworking of the song...it's one of the rare times a remix doesn't outshine the original.

Coachella Is A Mixtape

If you go over to I Am Fuel, You Are Friends you can get a mixtape courtesy of that fine blog.

It's a good little mix for your trip out to Indio. Or, if you want to fall into a pit of pity because you couldn't afford the tickets, airfare and hotel expense, then this is the next best thing for you.
