Sundress | Two Tones

Sundress continue to defy my expectations. Maybe it's the second name change... but, probably not. They continue to sound like absolutely nothing coming out of the North Texas, Golden Triangle of Music.

Their music shares more with gazer of shoes across the see than they do anyone in the region. At this point they are bordering on being the y'all version of The Coral or The Delays out of the UK and the new songs from their upcoming debut prove it--gently, reverb soaked guitar screeches matched with warm vocals.

Oh, and I should probably explain this too... Sundress was This Old House, but had to change their name so they chose Odyssey and for now they've settled on Sundress.

Mount Righteous | Eat Your Wife And Kiss The Barbeque

It's been noted, most recently on DC9, that Mount Righteous are moving away from the delightfully happy sounds of their first album to a more, noisy, punk driven version of a marching band. And to be fair, they've always been a punk marching band, but, now they're moving into the area of noise reserved for Sonic Youth and Jesus And Mary Chain.

"Eat Your Wife And Kiss The Barbecue" is a further step in that direction. I think it's going to take seeing them live to fully appreciate their sound. Because at times it seems like a bunch of people in a room making disjointed noise.

But, you can make up your own mind...

Yeah, They Local

While family drama kept me away from the Telegraph Canyon's in-store this weekend, it hasn't kept me away from listening to the delightfully, acoustically, folk-ally sounds of Denton's Seryn... who were the show openers.

Imagine if you will Band of Horses and Fleet Foxes getting together and starting a band. You would have more than just an animal band, you would have one hell of a twang-folk band. Granted, their total output thus far, or at least what they've posted on their Myspace page, is two songs. However, from those two songs it's evident the band has the talent to garner a nice little fan base. But, hell, they're from Denton, so this time next year they may just be the biggest thing since Midlake.
