Tickets To The New Frontiers Final Show

Yep, it is indeed a sad day in The D when a super talented  band goes away.  But, that's what is happening to the phenomenal The New Frontiers.  

They were on our best of list this year for album and single and this Saturday will be their final show at Club Dada.  So, that being said I have two pairs of tickets to give away for the show.  So, the first two people to email me with "Look at Miss Ohio" in the subject line will get them.  Make sure to give me your name too.

Cover Tunes

I was reading over at Gobbler's Knob about the new Waylon CD, Waylon Forever and so I checked out the songs that were on it.  I was more than a little surprised when I saw he covered Cream's "White Room."  I guess I shouldn't be to surprised since ol' Shooter is the one behind the project.  Anyhoo, it got me to thinking about good cover tunes I've heard and what makes a good cover.

A good cover doesn't always have to be complete reworking of the origninal, but, it usually helps.  A friend of mine turned me on to a cover of  Outkast's "Hey Ya!" by one Obadiah Parker.  It's a great version, but, I can't help but think that chicks would really dig this.  Then, there is the completely awesome version of Dolly Parton's "Jolene" that The White Stripe perform.

The New Frontiers Breaking Up?!

Dude, what the french, toast?! My CD of you isn't fully worn out yet and you are going to break up on me? I know, it's not me, it's you!

Well, that is the worst news I've heard all day. The wonderful Dallas band and "Yeah, They Local" alums The New Frontiers are calling it quitsies and broke the news tonight via a Myspace post:

It's never​ fun to tell peopl​e news they don'​t want to hear so I'll get right​ to it: The New Front​iers are quitt​ing.​

It's sucks when such a good band breaks up and shitty one's like Hinder stay around for a long time, ya know. So, I guess I'll end the sad news with an MP3. Oh, New Frontiers why must you go?
