Paper Champs

Chicago's Hey Champ have given the remix treatment to The Cool Kids "(We Are) Champions" that appeared on their very underwhelming Gone Fishing mixtape.

It sounds better than the original, which leads me to believe that maybe Chuck Inglish and Mikey Rocks need to work with some different producers. Hey Champ hits all the right buttons with this one.

The Cool Kids Go Fishing

With the new era of the music industry in full swing a lot of artists have taken to releasing their singles, albums and mixtapes for free online.  It's a good way to get free publicity since most of their money is made from touring anyway.  No one has embraced this new model quite like The Cool Kids.  They only have one EP to their name and a slew of singles that have been released for free via blogs.  Today they release their newest mixtape Gone Fishing to keep their name out there.

It's what you would expect from The Cool Kids, hard 808 beats and off-kilter rhymes.

You can download Gone Fishing here.

The Cool Kids Like Pennies

Finally there's a new video from Chicago's own The Cool Kids.  And, it's for one of my favorite cuts from them called "Pennies."  It's cool to see Chuck Inglish rockin' the retro (and snug) Joe Dumars jersey.  It took them long enough to come out with The Bake Sale, so, hopefully the album "Pennies" will be on, When Fish Ride Bikes, will be out soon.

There is one thing I'm not diggin' about the vidie--Chuck and Mikey are not to good with the lip synching.  I'm assuming that it because the playback was sped up so the video could have the slow-mo feel.

The Cool Kids "Pennies"

Tha's right, y'alls! The Chicagoland B-boys have a new one out! It's one of the best tracks I've heard by them in a while and it features the best whistling since "Patience." It is available for free download via Nah Right.

Just follow the link and you'll be ok. Okay? Oh, and don't forget about their show at the Granada next week. Alls you have to do is RSVP here and it's free.

Cool Kids Black Cab Sessions

This is one of the better Black Cab Sessions I've witnessed. This installment includes the Cool Kids freestyling their way through their set. Unlike Shaquille O'Neal, the duo can actually rock the good rhymes off the top of their head. Even more amazing is that the cab actually makes a pretty good drum.

The Real Cool Kids Come To Dallas

I was wondering when/if Chicago's Cool Kids would ever come to the D. Well, it looks like they will. As you can see from the pic, it looks like they will hit up the Granada on August 21 with Dallas' own The Party, Flosstradamas and Ricky Blaze.

If you aren't familiar with the Cool Kids then you need to get up to speed. They bring back what is now considered "old school" sound of the mid-to-late 80's. If you like good hip-hop, then this is the show for you.

That's Stupid!

Download this NOW!  If you aren't hip to Chicago's The Cool Kids, then you are missin' out, yo!  (Do the kids still say "yo?")  Anyhoo, if you've heard "Black Mags," "Mikey Rocks" or my personal favorite Klever Remix of "Gold Pager" then you are really missin' out.  It's got a killer beat and some of the best rhymes this side of the Trinity River.

You can get the FREE download here.

The Cool Kids Bake Sale

FYI y'alls! The Cool Kids Bake Sale EP will be out 5/20. Judging from the other singles they've released it should be pretty good. It's the only hip-hop record I'm looking forward to being released.

They are also getting ready to release a mixtape, below is a track from said mixtape.

This is one of my favorite tracks by them:

The Cool Kids

The boys they call The Cool Kids are at it again. This cut is a little bit of hip-hop chill out, nice flow, sounds a little like early 90’s hip-hop. But, the synth line sounds a lot like “Ridin’ Dirty” by Chamillionaire.
