Please, Please Me

Zooey Dechannel is a hard working woman.  Not only is she in a new movie this summer, 500 Days of Summer, but, she and M. Ward got their She & Him on and recorded their take of The Smiths "Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want."  I'm not sure how good the movie is going to be, but, the song is fantastic.

Morrissey @ The Palladium

I got the chance to review Morrissey's show last night at the Palladium.  It was a pretty good show, but I was left a little bit disappointed.  It kinda seemed like he was just going through the motions, I like his OKC show from a few years back better.

That being said, check out my full review here for DC9 and you can check out pics here or here.

Morrissey Years of Refusal

Steven Morrissey has had an amazing career, despite being a member of seminal Manchester band The Smiths he dropped off in popularity in the mid-90's.  It's not like his style changed up dramatically and went the punk or emo route, people just stopped paying attention.  But all that changed when he released You Are The Quarry in 2004.

Morrissey continues his resurgence with his latest effort Years of Refusal.  True to his style Moz changes from a crooner to a rockin' crooner singing about not knowing love, or being able to love and he still firmly has an anti-authoritarian chip on his shoulder.  So, basically, it's the same ol' Morrissey we've come to know and love.

"All You Need Is Me" best sums up the my Moz's feelings by seemingly talking to lovers and detractors: "You hiss and groan and you constantly moan/but you don't ever go away and that's because all you need is me."

"I'm Throwing My Arms Around Paris" is one of my favorite tracks, which I'm posting.  You can pick up his album here.  He will also grace us with his presence on April 10 at the Palladium Ballroom.  Be sure to stop by Kroger's and pick up some cheap roses for the man.

Moz Is Squeezing His Skull

The newest single from Morrissey's Year's of Refusal has hit the interweb, "Something Is Squeezing My Skull."  It's not exactly what I would expect from Moz--pop-punk Morrissey style.  I guess that's what happens when you live in L.A.?

Aside from the pop-punk tone of the music the thing that caught my attention most was the lyric "I know by now you think I should have straightened myself out."  As to say 'I've been different version of the same subject matter for 20 years now.'  I know he's not an idiot and is probably as self aware as any of us, but, it's odd to hear it come out of his mouth.

New Morrissey "I'm Throwing My Arms Around Paris"

Yep, here's the newest of the new from the man who put the "M" in Manchester.  It's Morrissey at his best:  crooning about how nobody loves him.  With Morrissey, you know what you're in for and he doesn't disappoint with this one.

As I told you a couple of weeks ago Morrissey is coming back to the D and this new songs makes me just as excited.

The Moz Comes Back To The D

Yeppers, the world's most famous asexual vegan is coming back to The D.  He will be playing the Palladium Ballroom on April 10.  That seems to be a fitting place for him to play.  Although, it would've been a sweet to if he could've played at the Granada.  I saw him a few years ago in OKC and it was one of the best shows I've been to.  It had all the things you would expect, concert goers bringing him flowers, jumping up on stage, Moz swinging his mic cord in true crooner fashion.

His stop in Dallas will be in support of his new album Years of Refusal--as you can see the above cover.  I'm not sure what's more disturbing about the cover; the fact that he's visibly uncomfortable holding a baby and doesn't really know how to hold one or the fact the baby is happy with a large hand on his/her junk.

New Morrissey

As I told you the other day, Moz will be releasing a new greatest hits compilation. Now, thanks to our friends at The Hype Machine, we can hear one of the two new tracks on the album. The song is called "How People Grow Up".

It has the vocal that reminds me of "November Spawned a Monster." But, it has the more rock style of "Glamorous Glue."
